Job

DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF GROWTH AND SUSTAINANCE ON THAT JOB.

Nigeria is a nation where enormous resources (both human and materials) abound. To say that the nation is blessed is stating the obvious facts. The oil and other solid mineral wealth of this great nation is enough, if properly harnessed, to put this country in the forefront of the comity of nations; solving a decade long deficiencies in health, roads, security and agriculture etc. In technological sphere, we have had so many technological breakthroughs that have driven the growth of the global market. Even the recent rebasing of our gross domestic product (GDP) ahead of other notable African nations is no mean feat for the economy.

But whatever gain we claim to make has not cascaded, or even impacted on the citizenry in the real sense of it much more of generating employment. Therefore growth without employment is a mere talk show.

The unemployment situation in Nigeria has reached an all time high in the country swelling the already poverty level among the populace. Indeed this high level of unemployable populace has caused a stir in our collective psychic as a people and our leaders are so helpless. Employers have taken advantage of this unwholesome situation to commit havoc on the workforce as the few jobs available have been devoid of necessary remunerations and safety measures.

Notwithstanding this gory socio-economic situation, an average Nigerian worker continues to persevere believing that there will be light at the end of the tunnel for him one day.  Again as far as ethics are concerned, the person is compelled to work under a boss that sits atop his head and continues lord it over him and degrade all his effort. His views are not sought for and in rare cases where he airs those views they are not accepted. Little wonder some of those workers get frustrated and some even die in their prime.

Therefore to grow on that job and continue to sustain that growth; here are some useful tips.

-         You must brace all odds to be on your duty post even before the scheduled time; to an average employer in this country any excuse for late coming is an aberration and very unacceptable.

-         You must carry out those assigned task effectively; efficiency cannot be underplayed in any business. Therefore, if possible, go out of your way to do things in order to make your employer happy.

-         Imbibe some discipline and talk less. Talking too much has put some people in trouble with their employers. You must carry yourself with dignity and imbibe some element of discipline.

-         You must be humble and responsible; humility and responsibility rank together and are excellent factors that enable one to shine and excel on the job.

-         You must relate with your boss on daily basis; never assume that he already knows or ought to know certain things. Make every effort for instance, to know some things concerning him.

-         Study and train hard on the job; studying  and training should not be a one-off thing or even to the  detriment of the company allotted hours  of work therefore to succeed on that job, do not neglect the idea of studying and improving yourself on the job.

-         Forsake any act or action that will be misconstrued as threat to the status quo or powers that be; most people find it difficult to embrace change. In fact the idea of change in some organization should be handled with sensitivity. Therefore keep or restrict yourself to the norm unless you are mandated to implement those some changes.

-         Must be seen to be loyal to the core; loyalty is good and you must learn how to play the card. It is one of the greatest tools that have moved people up the ladder of greatest. Remember that people are comfortable with the person that is loyal to them and can be counted on to protect their interest.

Therefore, for as long as that job lasts, you need to learn to play by these rules to sustain and grow on that job. Not recognizing these office intrigues/politics have cost most people their jobs and send them to the unemployment market.
